Indigenous People Day
๐๐ผ beautiful people, Mandy here! ๐ I want to wish everyone a Happy Indigenous People Day and share a little bit about why today is incredibly important to me.
Growing up in Arizona and being Native American, I remember in school learning why we celebrated Columbus Day; for his discovery of America. As I got older, outside of school I began doing a deeper dive into history as a whole and learned that a big part of his legacy also included the genocide of my ancestors. While unfortunately this is a common tale since the beginning of time, it was very disappointing that this key detail from our history was ignored and not taught. โ
โ
I understand as humans we want to focus on the positive in life. But it's so important that we also teach the truth of the past, even when itโs something we aren't proud of. This is how we learn and grow into a better society. โ
โ
I encourage you to seek out as much knowledge as possible and with that, let's celebrate each other! Not only our differences but our similarities. โ
โ
Love you all! Enjoy the day and please remember to stay safe! ๐
