Indigenous People Day

๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ beautiful people, Mandy here! ๐Ÿ˜˜ I want to wish everyone a Happy Indigenous People Day and share a little bit about why today is incredibly important to me.

Growing up in Arizona and being Native American, I remember in school learning why we celebrated Columbus Day; for his discovery of America. As I got older, outside of school I began doing a deeper dive into history as a whole and learned that a big part of his legacy also included the genocide of my ancestors. While unfortunately this is a common tale since the beginning of time, it was very disappointing that this key detail from our history was ignored and not taught. โ

I understand as humans we want to focus on the positive in life. But it's so important that we also teach the truth of the past, even when itโ€™s something we aren't proud of. This is how we learn and grow into a better society. โ
โ
I encourage you to seek out as much knowledge as possible and with that, let's celebrate each other! Not only our differences but our similarities. โ
โ
Love you all! Enjoy the day and please remember to stay safe! ๐Ÿ’•
