Who Are You Doing This For and Why?
Hello lovely people. Mandy again. Today I thought a good topic when you’re approaching a new project or venture is to discuss something you’ll be asked often; “Who Are You Doing This For and Why?” This an incredibly important question you’ll need to ask yourself that will help you gain a clearer picture for your endeavor. For instance - Why is this business needed? And what problem is it going to solve? And keep in mind, your dream could be as simple as creating sock puppets. It doesn’t matter what it is, but it does matter why.
For me, as idealistic as it might seem - I’ve realized over the years that my goal at the end of the day is to make people smile. I want to make people feel good about what they are putting in their body - knowing it’s coming from someone who really does give a shit. Gives a shit about their health and wellbeing as well as the planets.
So how do you figure that out for yourself? Well, I think it took me a while to properly (or simply) articulate that. I remember at important times in the growth of my company being asked this question and sometimes being stuck. So it’s okay if it doesn’t come to you right away. But I feel what eventually got me to my "why" was all the years of practice, fucking up and hardship. That time really helped me find my voice as well as my drive. In the beginning, I didn’t really know why I was doing this, other than I wanted products like this to exist for myself. So I assumed I couldn’t be the only one.
I think at the end of the day that’s the key. Once I defined my driving force I gained a new layer of confidence that helped me grow to another level.
